Term 1 Issues in teaching and Learning Science

Issues in teaching and Learning Science

I have faced many problems in Term 1 this year. There were many problems. Firstly, the class was too noisy, preventing the whole class from learning a lot during lessons. Mr Lim, our Science teacher, also could not even control the class during lessons. We focused on reflection of light, and of course drawing of ray diagrams. We started off by learning the basics, and identifying the incident and reflected ray and the angle of incidence and reflection. We learnt how to draw ray diagrams after a while. I did not understand how to draw them at first. But after some time, I went back home to revise and read up more on the Science Notes given and I eventually got the hang of it and understood the topic. We also learnt some of the key principles of reflection, for example the fact that the angle of reflection must always be the same as the angle of incidence.

We did many practicals on and trying out ourselves on the reflection and refraction of light. There was also many online resources to help us prepare for our exams. I feel all these were very helpful to help us revise for exams. For example, there was this online website that helps us learn the reflection of light for convex and concave mirrors. All these can then explain some situations in which light plays a part. This explains why people can play pranks on others using prisms and becoming 'ghosts' to scare others. I have also learnt many other physics concept regarding mirrors and how concave mirrors work. They diverge light rays instead of converging them like convex lenses. I feel that this term was quite interesting as I learnt how light works.
